How a barangay court becomes a pickleball community

Ask any Philippine pickleball group how they started and you will hear a version of the same story. Someone taped lines onto an underused basketball court, brought a portable net, and invited six friends.

The first twenty players

Growth is almost never about promotion. It is about whether a first-timer had a good enough evening to come back, and whether someone remembered their name the second time.

The groups that stall are usually the ones that got competitive too early. The ones that grow keep one court deliberately slow, and put a patient player on it.

Making it last

• Fix a regular night and never move it
• Keep at least two loaner paddles in the bag
• Split the court fee openly, every session
• Let beginners play with better players, not only each other
