Metro Manila added more pickleball courts in the last eighteen months than in the previous five years combined. That is good news, but it also means the quality varies enormously, and a court that looks fine in photos can turn out to be a badminton hall with tape on the floor.

What actually matters in a venue

Surface and ceiling height matter more than anything else indoors. A proper acrylic or cushioned surface changes how the ball sits up, and a low ceiling turns every lob into a dead rally. Outdoors, shade and lighting decide whether you can realistically play after 4pm.

• Dedicated lines, not shared badminton markings
• At least four metres of ceiling clearance indoors
• Lights that stay on past 8pm for outdoor courts
• Somewhere to sit between rotations

Booking without wasting a trip

Most venues still run bookings through chat rather than a system, so message ahead and ask specifically whether there is open play or whether the whole court is reserved. Turning up to a fully booked venue is the most common way new players lose an evening.

If you are just starting, say so when you message. Venues with a beginner rotation will usually tell you which night to come, and that single question saves you from an evening of standing at the side.
